Canada opened the scoring in the pre-World Cup friendly against Ireland in the 23rd minute. A corner kick deflected off Ireland defender Jake O'Brien and ended up being an own goal. The lead, however, was equalized in the 60th minute. Troy Parrot's penalty kick, parried by the goalkeeper, ended up in the back of the net through a rebound strike.
