VanVleet said his true welcome-to-the-league moment came as an undrafted rookie when he unexpectedly started against Chris Paul and the Clippers. By halftime, Paul had 14 assists and “wasn’t even shooting.” VanVleet said he was “turning in circles” and left realizing “it’s levels,” adding the game hurt differently because Paul controlled everything without even scoring.
