Coach Javier Mendez Says Islam Makhachev Is Far Tougher Test Than He Appears

Coming from a Sambo background, Makhachev now moves up for a welterweight title fight with Della Maddalena at UFC 322. Coach Javier Mendez warned JDM not to overlook the Dagestani’s striking: “By no means is Islam an easy fight…any striker won’t have an easy time,” he said, adding JDM will face “a whole different story” inside the cage. It marks Makhachev’s bid for a 2nd UFC title.
