College Football Player Loses Scholarship After Time Away Following Mom's Death

Western Kentucky canceled defensive lineman Victory Vaka’s scholarship after he remained home following his mother’s death in April. “I was shocked,” Vaka said, adding, “It’s like inhumane what they did.” The school also processed him as a “failure to report,” preventing him from entering the transfer portal.
