The Commanders grabbed Madrid’s first ever NFL touchdown when QB Marcus Mariota hit Samuel on a short screen and he broke free for a 20-yard score, putting them up 13–6 with 11:24 left in the third. Early on, the game also saw a first, when referee Shawn Smith called a Commanders false start entirely in Spanish, drawing cheers across the Bernabéu.
