Cease punched out 12 Athletics hitters in his first start for Toronto, setting a Blue Jays record for strikeouts in a debut. With Kevin Gausman also striking out 11 on Opening Day, the two Blue Jays became the first teammates since at least 1901 to each record 11-plus strikeouts in the first two games of a season.
