Ecuador Declares Holiday After Germany Upset Seals Knockout Spot

Ecuador’s 2-1 win over Germany did more than shake Group E. After Angulo erased Sané’s second-minute opener and Plata struck in the 77th, Ecuador secured a knockout place and sparked national celebrations. The country’s president declared Friday, June 26, a national holiday, turning one of Ecuador’s biggest World Cup results into a public celebration back home nationwide.
