FIFA World Cup Records Far Fewer Injuries Than NFL Games
NFL games average more than 5.5 total injuries per game, far exceeding the roughly 0.5 to 1.0 severe injuries per match reported during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Studies link NFL artificial turf to 28% more non-contact lower-body injuries, 32% more knee tears, a 69% increase in ankle injuries, and a 60% higher surgery risk.
