France vs Iraq Becomes First World Cup Match to be Delayed Due to Weather Conditions

The match between France and Iraq in Philadelphia has been delayed due to thunderstorms in the area.

Fans in the stadium were being told to take shelter at halftime while a message on the big screen read: "A severe thunderstorm is approaching."

The restart of the second half was then delayed by at least 15 minutes due to the inclement weather, before being pushed back again until 7 p.m. ET. Players are set to warm up again before the second half at 6.40 p.m.

While heavy rain has threatened several training sessions and games, Monday marked the first weather delay of the World Cup.

France leads Iraq 1-0 in the Group I game, after a superb left-footed strike from the edge of the box from talisman Kylian Mbappé.
