Gene Bess, College Basketball’s Winningest Coach, Dies at 91
Bess, the winningest coach in college basketball history, died Friday at 91, his son Brian announced. Across 50 seasons at Three Rivers College, he went 1,300-416, won NJCAA titles in 1979 and 1992, reached 17 national tournaments and eight Final Fours, coached Latrell Sprewell, and entered the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023 after retiring in 2020.
