Golf Courses Now Outnumber McDonald’s Across the U.S.

“Over 16,000 courses vs about 13,000 Golden Arches,” Nathan Yau from data visualization site FlowingData stated. “You can have a golf course in an area without many people… people will travel to play golf,” Yau notes. “Few travel for McDonald’s.” The US contains 43% of the world’s total golf courses. Florida leads, followed by Michigan, California, New York, and Texas.
