When asked why 49ers are unable to reach the Super Bowl, Rice said, “I wish I knew,” but added it comes down to “players, leaders” fully committing. “Coaches can make the calls,” he said, “but it’s still up to the players.” Rice said his teams “made it happen” because they wanted to win “for City of San Francisco” and owner Eddie DeBartolo.
