Mays says the Texans' heavy use of max protection failed to solve their pass-blocking issues. Houston had “the 2nd most dropbacks in the league with 7 or 8 guys in pass protection,” Mays noted, yet “completed less than 50% of those passes” while allowing a 43% pressure rate. He argued protection problems extended beyond the offensive line to tight ends and running backs.
