Jose Altuve Will Not Play in the 2026 World Baseball Classic At the Request of the Astros

Altuve said at the team’s annual FanFest that he would like to play in this year’s WBC for Venezuela. The Astros, however, would prefer him to remain with them during Spring Training, per Brian McTaggart. The Astros' hesitancy stems from the thumb injury Altuve suffered while playing the 2023 WBC, consequently undergoing surgery and missing the first 43 regular-season games.
