Julius Erving on Young Charles Barkley: “Hard-Headed,” “Exceptional,” and Claimed His Spot

Erving said Barkley’s talent made teams live with the attitude. “He was hard-headed… had something to say about everything,” but was “exceptional,” able to rebound, go coast-to-coast, and make plays despite his height. Erving said adding him after a title was “disruptive,” and joked Barkley “almost killed” Marco Iavarone by bullying him out of “my spot.”

As Bennedict Mathurin approached the rim, Jaden McDaniels had a hard foul on Mathurin which led to a scuffle ensuing between the Wolves and Clippers. It began with Kris Dunn shoving McDaniels. Jaden was assessed a flagrant foul, giving Bennedict two frees (he went 1-2) and Dunn being assessed a technical foul which Jaden shot and drained.
