Lane posted on X that he decided to take the LSU head coach job after a lot of contemplation. Even though he wanted to coach Ole Miss in the playoffs, his request was “denied" by Salter (Ole Miss AD), despite the team asking for the same. “That means Friday’s Egg Bowl was my last game coaching the Rebels,” he added.
