Loudon the Lobster’s Vivid Journey as One of NASCAR's Most Unique Trophies
Loudon the Lobster’s run as a NASCAR trophy began with Kurt Busch in 2008. Each year, the local Makris Restaurant selects the biggest lobster from its tank—an 18–22 lb giant—to become Loudon. After the race, six pounds of meat are extracted and frozen for the winner, while a taxidermist repaints the shell and turns it into a wall-mounted keepsake.
