Maximiliano Araujo Becomes First Uruguayan to Score on World Cup Debut in 24 Years
Araujo struck an 80th minute equalizer for Uruguay against Saudi Arabia in their 2026 World Cup opener. The left winger became the first Uruguayan to score on debut at the tournament since Diego Forlan versus Senegal back in 2002. The South Americans wasted plenty of chances and settled for 1-1. Uruguay plays Cape Verde next on June 21.
