Meet Dave Kopay, the First NFL Player to Come Out as Gay in 1975

Dave, a former NFL running back (1964–1972) for teams including the 49ers and Redskins (now Commanders), made history in 1975 as the first former NFL player to come out as gay. In an interview with the Washington Star, he said, “I was really driven, and honestly, really happy that I could finally go ahead and do it.”
