May delivered his first career shutout, allowing one hit and one walk while fanning nine on 101 pitches in the Cardinals' 3-0 victory over the Padres. The righty, who took a perfect game into the seventh, struck out Fernando Tatis with an 86 mph sweeper as the crowd erupted immediately. The Cardinals improved to 39-31; the Padres fell to 37-34.
