NASCAR Has Never Raced on Christmas, but Has Come Close
Keeping the holiday spirit in mind, modern-day NASCAR has never run on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, records show, with a focus on downtime during the offseason. However, NASCAR’s closest brush came on December 29, 1963, at Savannah Speedway when Richard Petty led 133 laps and won the race. Eight Cup races have run in December, none closer to Christmas.
