NFL Draft Explained: 7 Rounds, 224 Picks, but Total Nears 260

There are seven rounds in the NFL Draft. While a standard draft features 224 picks (32 teams across seven rounds), the total rises to around 257-260 due to compensatory selections and forfeited picks. Teams select in reverse order of regular-season standings, with the Super Bowl champion picking last. Players must be at least three years removed from high school graduation.
