NFL Links Rising Concussions to Face Mask Design, Eyes Major Fix

The NFL saw concussions rise to 168 in 2025, up 30% from the 129 in the 2024 campaign, and believes face masks are a key factor, accounting for 44% of cases. NFL EVP Jeff Miller said, “We have not seen a similar improvement in face masks,” adding they lack “force mitigation.” The league is now crowdsourcing new face mask designs.
