Nico Williams’ Speed Carries Mother María’s Survival Story
María fled Ghana with husband Félix on foot through Nigeria, Niger, Libya, Algeria and Morocco while carrying Nico's brother Iñaki, enduring the desert without food and water. She saw people die on the way before a Cáritas lawyer stopped their deportation in Melilla, and Bilbao welcomed them. His parents’ sacrifice still drives him: “My happiness is that they live well.”
