On this day in 1969, the Yankees retired Mickey Mantle's iconic No. 7, cementing his place among the franchise's greatest legends. Mantle became just the fourth Yankee honored with a retired number, joining Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio. The switch-hitting superstar finished his career with 536 home runs, three MVP awards and seven World Series titles.
