Orix Buffaloes signed ex-Giants righty Hjelle after he chose minor league free agency. The 6-foot-11 sinkerballer logged a 56% ground-ball rate in four MLB seasons and posted a 3.90 ERA over 80 2/3 innings in 2023. He struggled in 12 MLB outings last year but had a 3.06 ERA in Triple-A. Japan could revive him as a starter.
