Patrick Zalupski’s $1.7B Rays Takeover Gets MLB Approval

MLB owners unanimously approved Zalupski’s $1.7B purchase of the Rays, with Robert Manfred calling it “good to go.” Zalupski takes over from Stu Sternberg, who paid $200M in 2005. Challenges loom: Tropicana Field repairs, no long-term stadium deal, and back-to-back losing seasons. Sternberg keeps 10%. Baseball ops staff, led by Erik Neander and Kevin Cash, will stay intact.
