Police Twice Performed Welfare Checks on Marshawn Kneeland at WMU

Police twice checked on Kneeland during his Western Michigan career, per reports, including a 2020 incident where he told officers he’d hoped a train “would run me over.” In 2023, coaches feared he wasn’t mentally fit to possess a gun; Kneeland voluntarily surrendered it and was later cleared by a counselor. The 24-year-old Cowboys rookie died by suicide earlier this month.
