Ron Rivera Reveals Why He Benched Cam Newton Over a Tie

Rivera once benched franchise quarterback Cam Newton for the opening series because he violated the Panthers' dress code by not wearing a tie. “Cam didn't have a tie. So I treated him just like I did everybody else,” Rivera said. After the backup threw an interception on the first play, Newton reminded him, “I'm in next series, just like you said.”
