Spencer Haywood Says His ABA Case Paved Way for Julius Erving
Haywood recalled leaving college as “a big commotion” when the ABA allowed him to play. NCAA said "he’s violating and breaking all the rules." ABA argued Haywood deserved to play under the Hardship rule because "his mother and family was still picking cotton in Silver City, Mississippi for $2 a day.” This allowed Erving and others to play in ABA.
