Kerr admitted Kuminga’s development may have been stunted by landing on a contender instead of a rebuilding team. “The optimal circumstance ... would have been to go to a bad team,” he said, noting young players need 30 to 35 minutes, mistakes, and a spotlight. Kuminga has been flourishing since being traded, averaging 14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
