Steve Phelps Had Informed Richard Childress About Inflammatory Messages Before Release

As per the text messages released on Friday as part of the antitrust lawsuit, Phelps had called Childress "a stupid redneck who needs to be flogged". NASCAR journalist Matt Weaver reported that Phelps had already reached out to the RCR-owner about the messages being a "byproduct of frustration during a particularly tense period of conversations about the economics of NASCAR competition".
