Study Finds At Least 25% of NFL Players in Sample Had CTE

A new study published in the British Medical Journal estimates that at least 25% of NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. Researchers examined 878 former players and estimated the true prevalence could be substantially higher. The study also found that more than 90% of players with Stage IV CTE had dementia.
