TaylorMade Blames “Invisible” Paint For 20-Yard Shot Swings In Robot Tests

Golf.com’s Jack Hirsch says TaylorMade found identical balls flying different during testing. Despite same launch and speed, balls landed up to 20 yards apart. Reason: paint can pool inside dimples and alter aerodynamics. “Painting was not a precision process,” TaylorMade's Mike Fox said. New 2026 TP5/TP5x add “Microcoating,” plus redesigned cores/layers after 100,000 simulations. TaylorMade cites ~1 mph ball-speed gains.
