UEFA Refuses to Follow FIFA’s Mouth-Covering Red Card Rule

UEFA will not adopt FIFA’s World Cup rule that allows red cards for players covering their mouths while confronting opponents. The decision comes after fan backlash, with two players already sent off at the tournament: Miguel Almirón against Türkiye and Piero Hincapie in Mexico’s Round of 32 win. UEFA competitions, including Champions League and Euro events, will avoid it.
