University of Hawaiʻi NIL Bill Falls One Vote Short in Senate

A landmark plan to support University of Hawaiʻi student-athletes through state-funded NIL deals failed as lawmakers adjourned their 2026 session on Friday. Senate Bill 3263, which proposed a $2.5 million taxpayer contribution to an NIL endowment, fell just one vote short of passing the Senate. Consequently, Hawaiʻi athletics must rely solely on private sector fundraising for NIL support this year.
