Urban Meyer Says Proposed 24-Team CFP Would Be ‘Too Much’
Urban Meyer said he opposes expanding the CFP to 24 teams, arguing it would reward programs with “mediocre years.” Meyer admitted he was initially wrong about the current 12-team format but believes 24 teams would dilute the postseason. He did, however, pitch a “Play-in Saturday” concept featuring conference championship games and additional playoff qualifiers to create more meaningful late-season matchups.
