What Is the Actual Odds of Making It Into the NFL?
More than 1.08 million athletes play high school football, but only 6.5 percent reach college. Of those, 1.6 percent are drafted into the NFL, with 257 selections yearly. Including undrafted rookies, about 300 earn NFL roster spots, meaning roughly 0.03 percent of high school players reach the league. And even if someone makes it that far, the average NFL career span is three years.
