In a Week 2 game against the Lions, 49ers tight end Garrett Celek scored a touchdown while dragging defenders into the endzone. On the sidelines, Garoppolo remarked to Celek and fellow tight end George Kittle, "What is it, National Tight Ends Day?". The NFL later adopted the tradition.
