Why Scottie Scheffler Cheered Rory McIlroy’s Grandstand Break at East Lake
McIlroy’s bladed bunker shot on 18 ricocheted off a grandstand to 17 feet, setting up birdie. Surprisingly, Scheffler admitted he was rooting for the lucky bounce: “I have never rooted so hard… we had no way of finishing if play was delayed.” Both birdied the hole, with Scheffler’s 63 leaving him two back of Russell Henley.
