Big 12, Colorado Mourn QB Dominiq Ponder After Fatal Crash

Condolences continue to pour in for Colorado quarterback Dominiq Ponder, who died at 23 in a car accident early Sunday. The Big 12 said it is “deeply saddened” and extended prayers to his family and the CU community. The 6-foot-5 passer spent two seasons with the Buffaloes after transferring from Bethune-Cookman.

In a video now going viral, Shedeur gifted Dominiq a fully paid trip to Bal Harbour as his Secret Santa surprise. Ponder tragically died in a single-car accident around 3:00 a.m. Sunday. Authorities said he lost control while traveling westbound on a right-hand curve, crossed into eastbound lanes, crashed through a guardrail, and struck an electrical pole.

Maryland is expected to hire Matt Barnes as special teams coordinator, sources tell CBS Sports. Barnes previously worked at Maryland from 2016–18 and was most recently co-defensive coordinator at Mississippi State. He also served as defensive coordinator at Memphis and was an assistant, including interim DC in 2021, at Ohio State.
