Bassitt left Baltimore’s 8-1 loss at Boston on Wednesday after three innings with lower back tightness, as his velocity dipped. Manager Craig Albernaz said he was “grinding through it” during a 36-pitch third, when Wilyer Abreu hit a two-run homer. Bassitt allowed three runs, then said, “Chalk this up on me,” while backing Baltimore to rebound behind Trevor Rogers.

His run began April 30 and already broke Grover Cleveland Alexander’s 115-year-old Phillies record before Wednesday’s game against San Diego.
