Patriots Replace Noncompliant Turf Before Preseason Opener
The Patriots are replacing the Hellas turf at Gillette Stadium after the surface was found to lack the NFL-required shock-absorbing “e-layer.” New England had switched from FieldTurf following the World Cup, but the Hellas surface was not NFL-approved. FieldTurf began installing a compliant replacement Sunday, with the work expected to finish before Thursday’s preseason opener against the Colts.
