Tony Bennett Joins Lakers as Draft Advisor After UVA Title Run and Surprise Retirement

The Lakers hired Bennett as an NBA Draft advisor under Rob Pelinka, per Shams Charania. He coached Virginia to the 2019 national title and built a program around pack-line defense and tempo control. Bennett abruptly retired in October 2024 at 55, weeks before the season. Now he’ll help LA evaluate prospects and fit.
